Shhhhh: h/ahhhh by Sabrina Marzell
Investigation of fricative sounds - In the piece, a voiceless glottal fricative merges with an unrounded open back vowel - referred to in linguistic literature as the dark a - within an environment where water drips and flows.
h/a-hhhh slowly guides us into an spatial atmosphere in which the waters appear fluid-abrasive. Metallic textures merge the breath; the sonic sceneries inform us through playful yet precise sense of experimentation.
Sabrina Marzell is a documentary filmmaker and sound artist based in Munich. Within her time-based practices she is interested in places of movement and transition - both within artistic processes and in relation to situational or contextual dynamics.
